Summary

The Celo Celo Wallet Council Call is the "All Hands" call for all Celo Wallet Developers to to come together, discuss ideas that shape our Celo ecosystem, and align on best practices.

Folks interested in Account Recovery can read up on the current designs written by cLabs for the Celo community. These designs include components cLabs is directly implementing as shared infrastructure, such as an extension to ODIS for secure password hashing, and recommend designs for wallet implementations to support interoperable and robust Account Recovery.

In the immediate term, we are pushing forward with implementation of Cloud Backup. This system can be integrated into existing EOA wallets as a compliment to mnemonic phrases. It is not currently recommended as the sole recovery method, as forgetting the password or losing access to the backup would both render recovery impossible, but it intended to make recovery much more reliable (and less stressful).

In the long term, the goal is to fully support smart contract wallets with keyless account recovery. Existing EOA accounts would need to migrate to smart contract accounts to utilize this recovery architecture, but this would provide a reliable recovery method that can fully replace mnemonic phrases.
