The greatest challenge for rails newbies is starting with rails as their first framework, without having done some Ruby. I feel the best way of getting into Rails is doing some Ruby, then do Sinatra or pure rack based applications, then try hanami, after which you get into Rails. This may seem a long way of getting to your destination, but it is one way that will ensure you reach the destination safely. Know you some Ruby before getting into Rails you will see less magic.
