I like Feed Sidebar very much and have used it for more than a year. Then,
some time ago, I tried Brief, but now I am reverting to FS. The main
criticism about FS is the missing "mark current item as read" facility. I
know, there is a context menu containing that option, but that means two
clicks and some mouse movement.
My proposal is to provide a new button on each item line which works
identical to the already existing button in the detail area. A keyboard
shortcut would be cool, too.
Additionally I'd like to propose that the selection should not vanish when
the current item is marked as read, but the next item (not feed!) should
receive the selection. With this behaviour, browsing through many items
would be a lot more comfortable.
I have attached an image showing the position I imagined for the extra
button. I use Feed Sidebar 4.3.1 on Windows XP SP3.
