If you go to View > Toolbars > Customize, there's a character counter you can drag to your toolbar to have the character count always show up without needing a mouseover.

I don't have that character counter. What extensions do you have installed?

I should start by saying I'm a keyboardist and absolutely hate using my mouse if I can avoid it. I love hotkeys, command-lines and everything like that. Twitter bar is amazing for me because of this. It is one of the easiest ways I can tweet from my computer.
There was only one thing about it that bothered me for a little while. I couldn't find a way to display my character count. Then with a little searching I found there was a way, BUT it requires mousing over the icon. Woe is me.
I have thought of a few possible solutions to my problem and I hope you can find the time to implement one or all of them.
Easiest solution first: Make an option to require you to hit enter before sending a tweet after typing "--post" This would accomplisth what I'm looking for as typing --post does the same thing as mousing over the icon. This might also be a good idea just in general as I'm sure many people like to read over their tweet one last time before posting and might type --post before they were ready.
Second slightly more complicated solution: Always show the character count. This is probably less desirable as 99% of the time you'll be using the url bar "as it was intended" rather than tweeting but if the number was unobtrusive enough somehow I don't think it'd be too annoying to always see it. Maybe it could be put in the bottom status bar? Either way this should of course be an option not a requirement.
Also, I just noticed the character count that appears on mouse-over doesn't update until you mouse-off then mouse-on again. I hope that's something that could be changed/fixed to update automatically.
Thanks so much! And honestly even if you don't implement these changes this is still a fantastic little extension. Definitely one of my favorites. :)
