Short description of the idea (140 character tweet):
A mobile app that allows citizens to request trees be planted by the City at the GPS location of their phone.
What is your project concept or idea? What challenge or opportunity will it solve?
This mobile app would be a way to extend two tree programs the City currently has in place: One Person One Tree and the Trees to Good Homes programs. The first program, One Person One Tree, is an effort by the City of Orlando to preserve the street tree canopy by allowing citizens to request trees by planted by the City along city streets. Trees to Good Homes is a neighborhood program meant specifically for helping private citizens plant trees on their own property.
The idea for the app is to allow citizens to request certain types of trees be planted at their current location right from their phone. The City would then visit the site to confirm the planting location and plant the tree.
Who will benefit from your project? Describe the humans at the center of the problem - who are they?
How would they benefit? Can you tell their story?
Do you have photos of them? Or quotes?
Since this proposed app would be used to aid programs already in place by the City, this project would benefit all citizens and visitors to Orlando by maintaining the street tree canopy. By providing GPS locations with each request, it would also help the City expedite requests better by providing exact coordinates to possible tree planting locations.
