Submitting Data to Google/Waze #5

After the discussion at demo day, where many people said they would really like this data built into Google Maps / Waze, I did some research on how to do that and here were my findings.

  1. Submitting to Google will probably not work. If you read the community boards you'll find:

    • There is no API to submit changes.
    • You can submit long term (2 weeks or longer) road closures via mapmaker.
    • Short term closures could be submitted via the "Send feedback" button in app but those can take a long time to get approved.

  2. The best option seems to be submitting to Waze (which then will sync with Google).

    • They have guidelines for submitting road closures.
    • They have a map of planned events that cause road closures.
    • You can submit requests be added to the map via this form.
    • On the form above they suggest contacting waze-closures@google.com for support.
