suites for pairing-friendly curves #290

Closed kwantam closed 2 years ago

kwantam commented 4 years ago

Per recent discussion on the CFRG mailing list, either this draft or pairing-friendly curves will want to add suites for all of the curves in the p-f-c document.

Probably BLS12-381 should live wherever the other suites do.

I'm happy adding them all here, but I'm curious what @armfazh and @chris-wood think.

It would be good to have the suites in h2c, however it seems to me that the pfc-draft still needs more work to be done until reaching to a final set of curves. We probably do not want the pfc be a dependency of the h2c draft. I am ok with having the bls12-381 suite in h2c, as serves as an example on how to specify suite for future specifications of pairing friendly curves. The suites for the remainder pf curves can be included in the pfc draft.

Agreed.

@kwantam do we still need this, or should we close this out?

kwantam commented 3 years ago

I think both documents are at or near RGLC, so maybe the question of where to put the suites is a good one to pose on the mailing list. Maybe close this issue after it's decided for sure?

chris-wood commented 3 years ago

That sounds good! Do you want to pose this question to the list (in the context of the BLS draft)?

chris-wood commented 2 years ago

@kwantam I propose we close this out. We have BLS-381 in the draft now. Suites for BN curves can go in the p-f-c draft.

Sounds good to me!
