I tried how it works on current WorldMap production. If I check that I am affiliated with Harvard, I got an error, though I still receive the activation link, registration is successful and the user is marked as affiliated with Harvard - even if the page gave error. So what to do now?

Easiest is have is Harvard check box and if user does not have harvard in domain of email address then disable button. If checked and has harvard then enable.
