When mutating genes why am I getting undefined? #3

When mutating a dna strand with only one bit I am getting undefined returned. Why?

Temp fix in which I only allow dna strands that are at least 2 bits long to be mated.

Ultimately this lessens the biodiversity of each generation and I want to get this solved.
