This is a cool idea, however I would also make displaying the QR input button per default configurable additionally, as there are already WIGs using/requiring the QR functionality and we should not render those inoperational by default.
Is there a place somewhere where such extensions are documented? If not, we could use the repository wiki for that.
@bekuno do you mean the "environment variables" in cartridges? Those are only a proposal, they don't exist yet.
Or do you mean features like the QR code scanner function? I don't think I have seen a documentation for that, nor for the video playback that's apparently possible according to changelog.
I created a wiki page to have a general site for listing such specials. https://github.com/cgeo/WhereYouGo/wiki/WhereYouGo-features Feel free to fill them with live.
I do 100% agree to the initial reasoning for having this optional. I also thought, that this button is part of the specific cartridge I am currently playing. Very irritating.
Moin, please give the issue a higher priority. I have recently received some questions from new cachers who were looking for a QR in my cartridges. Also in the forum of GS was now a question: https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/362796-qr-code-bug-in-android-app/&tab=comments#comment-5894463, https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/346185-whereyougo-app-issues-qr-code/ and https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/367705-qr-codes/
not so good: Since v0.9.2. input can be scanned from qr-code. However, I have observed the following: New cachers (and there will always be new cachers) are irrateted. They see a button "scan qr", they press the button, a camera window opens ... and the cachers begin to search a qr-code ... (although there is no qr-code to find).
Therefore i suggest, to make the "scan qr"-button optional.
Solution: The WhereYouGo-player looks for an "environment variable", which is defined in the cartridge and then displays the scan-button - or not.
env_inputQR= yes/no
and maybe even
env_inputNFC= yes/no
