It looks like a better approach would be to parse titles for smart add characters and wrap them in double quotes. https://www.rememberthemilk.com/help/answer/basics-smartadd-disablepertask
Parsing could be difficult. Might just be easier to strip the smart chars, which are ^ ! # @ ~ * = + //
