Bruce Perens, one of the founders of the Open Source movement, is ready for what comes next: the Post-Open Source movement.

"I've written papers about it, and I've tried to put together a prototype license," Perens explains in an interview with The Register. "Obviously, I need help from a lawyer. And then the next step is to go for grant money."

Bruce Perens is unhappy. He sees the spirit and potency of FOSS decaying into obsolescence as the big guns learn to game the system and users don't see the point.

It's on my computer and I made an anime girlfriend that can help make LSD, that's my definition of open source.

I strongly recommend reading that entire post, because it captures quite well the challenging situation that Open Source companies are in. My take on this is very much the same as for our own situation at Sentry: building a true Open Source company is hard.

This is re: Prusa.

I had some hope reading the headline, but Bruce manages to misunderstand the larger open source issues, villains (Red Hat, really?!?), etc. Tilts at all the wrong windmills.

Closing with "Toward Software Commons". I reached out to Bruce over email and am hoping to have a call soon.
