The priority for this issue at migration was Major.

Original description: 
Supporting fit will allow the use of fit: meet, which is useful for sizing
images in fill a page (growing or shrinking the image) whilst keeping the aspect
ratio.

background-size is now implemented in git. It covers pretty much the same 
ground 
for backgrounds as fit does for replaced elements.
