Tracking (in a course) : needing more informations #2239

Open tanchon opened 6 years ago

tanchon commented 6 years ago

Current behavior / Resultado actual / Résultat actuel

During many years i used "Claroline LMS" (1.11). In a course, the tracking was very useful :

Expected behavior / Resultado esperado / Résultat attendu

I would like to have these very useful tracking informations on Chamilo. If it is possible, it would be very nice !

Many thanks for your wonderful work !

Hi @tanchon, thank you for taking the time to suggest these new features. We will certainly consider them, although it comes a bit late to be included in the next version (1.11.6).

If you have pressing needs for that, know that there are professional providers listed on the chamilo website, to which you can ask for a budget to develop that. If not, than just hang on for a few weeks/months and this should appear at some point in a new version of Chamilo.

And because you're coming from a Claroline background: what is it that made you prefer Chamilo (vs Dokeos or Claroline Connect)? If you don't mind me asking...

Hi Yannick,

I think that I am going to wait for the future versions and the enhancement of tracking. If it is possible, it will make Chamilo as the perfect solution for my needs.

In my structure, we were not satisfied by the tools proposed by our university. So I have personally Installed Claroline on a mutualized server. I administrate the platform, but i'm not an informatician and my skills are limited (I have a very few time to consacrate to the maintenance).

In my structure (500-600 students), we use Claroline (1.11 : not the "Claroline connect") for 10 years. We appreciate its powerful features and its simplicity of use both for the teachers and for the students. 90 % of our needs are covered by classic tools like "documents", "forums", "groups" (and associated tools), "works" and tracking in a course. We are very satisfied by Claroline 1.11, but it's time to replace it (it is not "responsive design", some features are not very practical : for ex. when you want to add or delete documents in a course, you have to do it one by one...).

My "short list" to replace Claroline was : Moodle, Claroline Connect and Chamilo. I have installed them for testing (still on a mutualized server).

=> Moodle : I don't like this platform. Its interface is confusing and its not ergonomic. Too much parameters.

=> Claroline connect : I like this solution. There are some new tools very useful (for ex. "DataBase" that offers the possibility to define fields in a form to collect informations from the users...). BUT I think that this solution is not ideal for the "average user" : the interface is not very intuitive nor ergonomic. Moreover, it is not very documented and updates are not very easy. My personnal point of view is that Claroline Connect is a very powerful platform... but it tends to become "elitist" both for installation/maintenance and for "average user", compared with the older version : for ex., its difficult to find itself in the jungle of the versions and in the system of numbering, the updates are complicated for a non informatician, the "support" seems to be not very reactive... Moreover, the "average" user is lost the first time he uses the platform.

=> Chamilo is the perfect solution for my needs (except the Tracking features... for the moment !). Very powerful features, simplicity of use, ergonomics... I like its "clean" interface : the average user feels at ease, even when he begins to use this platform (no heavy training is necessary...). It is much more documented than Claroline Connect and the support seems to be reactive.

Thanks a lot for your work !
