This shows the alternative implementations as I had in mind.

I've done this quite quickly and haven't bothered with updating the tests (which all still pass) and documentation.

@jacobkiers Yes it has been a while... :-) I thought it would be a good idea to updated my version of PAMI a little and integrate all the still outstanding/usefull PR's into it. I noticed marcelo had not been updating PAMI for a while and i still found it usefull. Currently it's only supposed to be a local fork. I personally still have not made the switch to ARI :-) Hope you have been ok... And sorry it took me this long to finally understand your design/contribution.
