Seems part of the wavelength dependence is coming from the fact that the overall true continua of quasars have a slight wavelength dependence:
Currently 'SpenderQ' reconstructions have a slight wavelength dependent residual over the LyA and LyB ranges. I suspect this is due to the fact that the signal-to-noise is wavelength dependent, and thus the absorption masking is also wavelength dependent.
Perhaps the rebinning in the absorption masking procedure can absorb some of the wavelength dependence?
