Mobile Site Redirect #4451

Open niknak33 opened 1 year ago

niknak33 commented 1 year ago

What is the problem? Our current mobile experience is incompatible with our desktop experience, leaving users who enter via our mobile channel with a less than optimal experience. However, when we market our product, roughly 52% to 58% of users enter via the mobile channel (FMG Campaign and July Campaign). We need to give users a path to our optimal product offering, which is currently via the desktop.

How does this align to single cell strategy? Users may arrive on our site for the first time via mobile and give up before realizing our tools work significantly better on desktop. If we can get them to try our tools on desktop, we are more likely to enable them to identify of the genes and mechanisms that define and differentiate cell types, which is core to CELLxGENE Discover’s main goal.

User Sub-Stories

Mobile users are prompted when arriving on GE and Explorer pages

Additional Information

  1. As we are using an optional signup to CELLxGENE newsletter, we will require a Trust Review. The trust review covered under the Newsletter Epic will also cover the sign up option here.

Do not push into production without Trust Review Approval (Nik to add Trust Review Ticket)

From Ticket #347 Ensure accessing cellxgene via mobile devices understand that we recommend using our applications on Desktop.#347 We are increasingly marketing cellxgene through channels that result in discovery of our applications on mobile form factors. 8% of entrants to cellxgene now arrive on mobile or tablet devices. However, our tools are built for desktop consumption.

Requirement: Users who discover cellxgene through mobile or tablet devices understand that cellxgene is built for desktop use.

Design notes from discussions on slack:

Use of user agent to detect device types is discouraged Media queries to detect window widths MAY be a useful direction. References:
