Many organization participate in open source projects to build open source projects as their complementary intangible asset where they derive value in form of innovation and risk diversification. Companies some time can not purchase a complementary asset but can develop a complementary asset over a period of time by engaging, participating, and contributing to an open source projects and communities.

This metric can gauge how companies create complimentary assets from open source projects.
