Hi Matt,
I would be more than happy to contribute to this actually :)
A few people I would mention include Erika Pearson of Massy uni in New Zealand, Jeff Snodgrass at colorado state university, and David Spinks of CMX. I have all of them on the ist for podcasts as well if you're interested.

As part of our review of new Focus Areas https://chaoss.community/metrics/, our community recognizes we need further expertise to discuss Social Value with the same subject matter expertise as we have on the team for others. To facilitate that effort, we'd like to reach out to our network for support. The exact outcome is open: it could be inviting them to our group meeting, meeting out of these hours, or recording it for a CHAOSScast https://podcast.chaoss.community/.
To kick it off, please list those you know and whether you will reach out to them or would like others in Value to do so.

@samanthavenialogan that sounds lovely  Do you think this would be better as a podcast or a meeting? I'm down for either.
I mean why not both?
We can explore the topic on a podcast and then we can use what we discuss to create a more formal meeting and discussion?

@samanthavenialogan :+1: let's get one on the books :studio_microphone:

Sounds good :)
I've set up a google doc for it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QOtixNTmqhXYvhzKDFHq1DVhwwI717W0GHKgxa1af9M/edit?usp=sharing
Let's figure out what specific areas of the social value we're looking for, who will be joining us, and go from there? Will this be an after-dark or are we going to go find someone to interview since Georg and I have a few people we can bring?

Thanks Matt B and Venia,
Am I understanding the order of events correctly?
I think that's the gist yeah :)
We can make a series asking the question - and then we can produce a metric out of the discussion.

- Record individual interviews as podcast episodes
- Publish them on CHAOSScast
- Write metrics from those conversations

I've been putting feelers out into my network and I'm hearing a common theme: before we can measure something, we need to define it, and this is especially true for something like "social good" or "social value." I think before we can make any metrics we need to decide what we at CHAOSS mean by these terms. I know these conversations have been going on for a while, but did we solidify or explicitly say this anywhere? And do we weigh in or consider how this "social good" is implemented? (i.e, if the project means well, but negatively impacts others, then does that detract from the overall level of social good per our definition?)
I think it's awesome (and necessary!) that we are including others in these conversations, but I just want to make sure before we start writing metrics that everyone understands and agrees upon our shared definition.
Cool. Thanks for this. I agree... defining the term will be key. Simply for starters

Hey I want to resume this conversation
I think a discussion that defines "social value" sounds like a great CHAOSScast after dark topic that we can make the podcast for? Then we'll go from there? how does this sound?

@samanthavenialogan that sounds wonderful. Let's start an email with Elizabeth and get it on the calendar either this or next month.
I am assuming the work on Podcast is done.
