Currently it is not possible for a user to see their followers. And it is not possible for a new user to be discovered by others.
Allowing users to view their followers can allow them to add new users and give them a chance to share their content. But some moderation tools will be needed to make a good experience: a user should be able to see what content an unknown follower would add to their feed, to know if they want to follow back that follower. Profanity filters could be used to reduce the impact of spammers.
By default, a user will not be exposed to spam. Engaging with content from an unknown follower will change this. It will need to be explained that this content could be spam.
