Does Soundflower bypass the internal DAC? #180

Just one simple question please.  I have added an external DAC in the pursuit 
of better sound quality from my MAC Mini desktop system; however, I have now 
lost the function of my remote mute and volume controls.  It appears that 
Soundflower will regain these functions but only by rerouting my digital audio 
output back through the internal DAC thereby defeating the purpose of the 
external DAC.  Please clarify if this is how it would work before I install the 
software.
