This is something I think we could do a 100% rewrite on. A couple sections to consider:
First Day Rituals What are the traditions & expectations we want to set for an employee's first day? I like the idea of having a team lunch (or going to a Josephine meal)? And I also like the idea of giving people options on how they want to be celebrated given different personality types, but I think what they outline here is a little too stiff/maybe off brand for us.
The Basics about Josephine I think the basics should be our values, our missions, and then something about our conviction/faith in our work, or the world that we're trying to push for, or our commitment to service, or idk something.
Josephine Team, Hours, and Office What should someone new to our office culture be prepared for (cough warned about cough)? Guidelines around where/when to be quiet or (more likely) loud? Procedures for meetings and asking questions? Respecting work flows and do not disturb statuses? Naps/breaks? Lunches?
In "End of your first day": I don't like the "we can do a cheer for you"...seems like it'd be very awkward. what's another better option that's still super low key? what about just an option to rain-check for a celebration (drinks, dinner) at another time of their choosing? Or maybe an encouragement option — we all send the person a slack message saying something that impresses us about them, something we're excited to collaborate on with them, something we thought they did well on their 1st day, something we notice is special about them, etc.
values need to be updated
suggested edit: "Josephine isn't a normal food tech company. Both the food and tech industries are traditionally very inaccessible fields, filled with a lot of ego. At Josephine, we’re working to break down these barriers with humility and sincerity, and that radiates through everything we do. Our product is meant to be friendly and fun, and our attitude should never feel superior or smug. Josephine isn’t about employing cooks, it’s about empowering them. We're not about providing another takeout option, we're about strengthening neighborhood ties and building a better food system."
"Our ambition is huge." section could prob stay, with just some minor tweaks: "We want to use tech as a means of radically changing the food system and empowering those who have been excluded from making a living by making food. This is a massive undertaking, and we have to be a little bit delusional to believe that we can do it. But every day we’re making progress and we’ve already taken this a lot further than anyone said was possible, so we’re used to making the impossible happen. This is hard, daunting work, but that’s how we make a dent on the world."
