Miscellaneous issues with DPPN-SC #8

Thought I would create a space to discuss miscellaneous issues that might pop up with regards to the DPPN-SC. For sizable problems, we can open a separate issue. To start with, some problems I noticed were:

In the entry under kāḷī, the mistress should be named "Vedehikā" not "Videhikā".

  • The entry for sundarikā is denoted as a person, i.e <dl class='person'> , it should be <dl class='place'>.

If you read the whole entry, you can see that it is really talking about "Sundarikā Bharadvajja" I agree it is probably not well constructed. This is the reference:

19.1Now at that time the brahmin Sundarika Bhāradvāja was sitting not far from the Buddha.

  • I'm not sure about this, but are the separate entries for id='Revata1' and id='Revata2' actually the same person?

No, for sure not. One is Khadiravaniya. He is actually the youngest brother of Sariputta, although this has been stripped from the definition because, I guess, that fact is not spelled out in the EBTs.

The other is Kaṅkhārevata. Revata the doubter. Was there something that made you think they were the same person?

In the entry under kāḷī, the mistress should be named "Vedehikā" not "Videhikā".

Interestingly this spelling goes back to the print edition of the DPPN. However neither SC nor the DPR show it as a variation. There seems to be a question if the name is derived from the Videhins. But yes, I agree there should be a consistent spelling.

Are we talking about the same entry? It starts with "a river in Kosala". There is a separate entry sundarika for the person. I've included both below:

Was there something that made you think they were the same person?

Hmm, maybe I got confused by the fact that they're both named as foremost in some aspect... I think one is foremost amongst forest dwellers and the other among jhanas, correct?

Yep. They are very often confused, I find. My problem is they both start with the letter K. 🙃

Is there a plan on how these changes are going to be made on the sutta-central repo? The change with the id's as well.
