Slow iCloud syncing #114

iCloud syncing is EXTREMELY slow. The provoc file is only 5MB. It shouldn't take more than 2 hours to upload?! Right?

chbeer commented 10 years ago

That's absolutely right. At wich point does it take > 2 hours? In iVocabulary?

mrlyingman commented 10 years ago

In iOS. So I would have the iVocab file open on OSX (10.9.5). Then I would send the file to iOS using Share > Send to iVocabulary. Then let that sync together because I was really fed up with waiting over 2 hours to sync the files between the devices. Now that the files are synced, if I make minor changes, should I expect to wait for an extended period of time?

Also, is there a problem with the way iCloud stores data? Is that why it would take a long time to sync when the file is only 5MB?

Also, is there ever a time when iOS syncing is just idle? Because mine has been syncing for over 2 hours.

You should not use "send to iVocabulary" as that is the old style, pre iVocabulary 3, and it maybe doubles the files or brings unsolvable conflicts.

So iVocabulary says "syncing" for more than two hours? That's not normal. Normally it's idle and iCloud does the rest in background

OK - I will not use Send to iVocabulary from now on. But I'm still syncing data on iOS. I'll try and get a log to you somehow.

Sorry, I deleted that crash log. It doesn't help and just clutters the thread.

Oh - sorry. What would be more helpful? Now my iPhone says idle and my osx app crashed. On 16 Oct 2014, at 3:22 pm, Christian Beer notifications@github.com wrote:

Just let me know what information you need and I'll do my best to get it to you. I REALLY want this app to be excellent.

Thank's a lot. But there sadly isn't much info available. iCloud sometimes just takes its time... I'll have a look at that crash you reported.

The way it works:

This whole process takes some time at the beginning, but should work very fast as soon as the changes are only small. But it depends on iCloud syncing the files between the devices what can be fast but can also be very slow.

If you make a lot of changes in one device and start a second device after a long time, it takes longer to get to the same stage.

OK. No problems. I will heed your advice. Thanks for your hard work.
