6s 13.5.1 Media/Jailbreak Corruption #1535

Open D4rkm3ch opened 4 years ago

  1. What iDevice are you using? 6s
  2. On what version of iOS is it? 13.5.1
  3. What version of checkra1n are you using? 0.10.2
  4. What is your host system (OS version? Hackintosh? VM? etc.)? Windows DualBoot into Linux
  5. How are you connecting to the device (USB-A? USB-C? Apple/3rd party cable? Through a USB hub?)? Apple USB-A

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

  1. Jailbreak
  2. Use Freely
  3. Time (I know it sounds odd but its a slow corruption. I don't believe it's tweak dependent as others have the same issue and we all have different builds. It just takes time.) ...

What do you expect, and what is happening instead? Long story short, I have been a jailbreaker for years. I had zero issues when I was running 13.3.1 but when I upgraded to 13.5.1 (hearing that checkra1n had no compatibility issues) a serious problem has started to arise. This problem is broken down into two sections: Media Player Corruption (with app download bug) and Jailbreak Corruption.

Media Player Corruption: Completely out of nowhere my media players (Plex, YouTube, Music, Books) have started to slowly corrupt until they can no longer boot. Initially everything on my phone will be working fine. Then, sometime when I try to boot them they attempt to open, but then crash immediately. All I have to do is close the app in the MultiTask Switcher, reboot the app, and presto. Eventually though, this no longer works. The apps simply won't boot up. Check the video for a visual reference.

I have Cr4shed installed and it never picks up on any issues. Nothing seems to fix this issue; iCleaner, editing tweak settings/removing tweaks, etc. The next thing I try is uninstalling and then reinstalling the App. That's when I come across the App download bug. The media player apps will no longer install. Watching the download bubble, they clearly get downloaded, but when it comes to the install process the bubble freezes dead. I can no longer download any of the previous corrupted media player apps.

Jailbreak Corruption: Once I hit this point, where no media players are working, I power cycle the phone, and try to enter jailbreak state again. Nothing. Only booting into SafeMode though Checkra1n works, (which you can't exit and since, to my knowledge, no tweak is causing this issue, SafeMode offers no solution). If I try to jailbreak, the phone just sticks on the boot screen until it resets and boots a non-jailbroken state.

At this point my only proven solution is to wipe my phone, (which I have done 3 times now because jailbreaking is that important to me), and reinstall literally everything.

I have been jailbreaking for years and have no idea what is causing this. My only assumption is that the Checkra1n jailbreak itself isn't "completely" compatible with 13.5.1, and somehow within the coding itself, the phone slowly "corrupts" to the point that no media players can operate. Once you try to re-jailbreak the phone you will then be stuck in my current position.

I have done some internet searching and I have come across other 13.5.1 users how also get stuck in this position so I'm not alone. Please help us.

I am a windows user who is jailbreaking on a dual boot of Linux and have been using Checkra1n since the start with no issues.

Please spread this comment so we can hopefully find some solution. I can guarantee the two of us aren't the only ones affected.

Does the issue also occur if you tick "Safe Mode" in the checkra1n options? As stated previously, yes, it will boot in Safe Mode but nothing can be done about the problem that I know of.

Have you tried / used coolstars odyssseyra1n?

That is a negative, I'll look into it when I get some free time in the next day or two.

Couple of clarifications needed:

D4rkm3ch commented 4 years ago

I will get back to you as soon as I can. I completely factory DFU reset 2 days ago to properly log the process. This morning the first sign of corruption has arose with YouTube crashing on boot. I had to do a quick iCleaner "clean" to get it running again. I'll be working on a proper log to keep things simple and easy to follow. I'll also be tracking your questions for better answers.

Just don't install cydia, on most devices it's cause a lot of problems, as bootloops and random crashes.

cydia may be slow, but it doesn't have the ability to cause bootloops

Don't install Cydia? I need a repo for tweaks. Whats the point of jailbreaking then? And I also have tried Installer and Sileo to no avail.

demhademha commented 4 years ago

First, you can install any package manager you want, second, you can install any bootstrap you want and third, cydia_does_not_cause_bootloops ,
