Cheltenham Hackspace storage policy

Justification for the policy

To ensure the Hackspace remains relatively tidy, allows members equal access and use of the space, and remains inviting to new members, this policy will set out what is reasonable for members to store at the Hackspace.

Storage boxes

Each member can store one 35L Really Useful box in the space for as long as they are a member. This is where long term projects and personal tools that are not for use by other members should remain. The member is responsible for sourcing this box and ensuring it is well labelled with their name.

Large projects

Projects which are too large for a storage box can be stored in the Hackspace while they are being worked on but not long term. If you wish to store a large project, you must put a ‘DO NOT HACK’ sticker on which is valid for 30 days and can be renewed.

At the discretion of the directors / committee, this can be revoked if a project remains in the Hackspace for an extended period without being used even if the sticker is renewed.

When a ‘DO NOT HACK’ sticker expires, the project becomes hackable and/or may be disposed of. If contact details are available, the owner will be contacted beforehand.

Donation of consumables and projects

While donations of consumables and projects are generous and often welcome, not everything is useful and there is limited capacity for storage. Please ensure you have approval from a director / committee before leaving donations at the Hackspace.

Tools on loan

Tools on loan to the Hackspace must have a ‘DO NOT HACK’ sticker on. Please ensure you have approval from a director / committee before loaning tools to the Hackspace for both space allocation and health and safety reasons.
