If I was using the interface, it would be to add a new compound that doesn't already exist or to update a compound's structure because it is incorrect.
For example (the IDs are made up):
Compound A, glucose CHEMBL112, is incorrect and needs an extra stereo bond.
I go into the interface and draw (or upload) the new structure with a stereo bond.
I click on Save and find it already exists as CHEMBL12345.
Therefore I want to merge CHEMBL112 with this compound and downgrade CHEMBL112.
I click on Merge and it asks me for the ID and I type in CHEMBL112
It then merges my NEW compound with the OLD!
This is the wrong way around!
