Right now, this is hardcoded to git.

This is only a problem when downloading the repository for the first time. For an existing repository, the right version control system (git or hg) is selected.

wib down with an hg repository dies with a non-informative error message.

Cloning into 'XXXXX'... not a git repository. fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights and the repository exists.
