Consider these in the context of these plots (from 9f976f5):

Why do you think I brought up confounding for these plots?

Note that if confounding is possible, it doesn't mean that it's the cause of an observed relationship. It just means you can't rule it out, and should likely discuss it in your analysis.

Because my temperature variable should not be increasing size depth or volume, so obviously there is some other variable affecting the equation. I believe it is just because precipitation has a much greater effect then evaporation on the pond dimension.

Nope. Let's say you had three years of data. If you just looked at temperature, how do you think you'd describe it?
