Specify more refined values for font-weight, not just normal or bold.
Especially since many different font families have multiple allowed values. For example, Helvetica Neue, the accent font for UI components, allows 100, 200, 400 (normal), 500, and 600 (bold).
[x] font-weight: 200; for lables, alerts
[x] font-weight: 500; for badges, alert titles
Optima (headings): 100 (normal), 600 (bold), and 800
