Joining problem of the iso parts of 4+ GB SACD rips #22

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. ISO ripping of a 4+ GB SACD with sacd-ripeer v0.2.1

2. Joining the two iso parts (iso.001 & iso.002) with various methods like Dos
copy /b command, Linux cat command, HJSplit, FileSplitter, ImgBurn

3. Playing the joined iso image from HDD on foobar2000 with the sacddecoder
plugin v0.1.2.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The entire joined iso image should play fine on foobar. However, foobar crashes
on the last track(s).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

SACD discs tested: Celine Dion - A New Day Has Come, Derek & The Dominos - Layla
Windows7 Ultimate 64bit, Wubi for Ubuntu 10.04

Please provide any additional information below.

I'm not sure if it is an issue of sacd-ripper. I guess I haven't yet found the
proper method for joining the iso parts and/or the foobar plugin is buggy. I
don't have am SACD-R compatible standalone player so I couldn't test the iso on
it.

i vote for problem with the foobar plugin - maybe it can't handle files bigger
than 4GB. also, on none of the computers i have foobar plugin can playback
multichannel SACD - the CPU usage goes to 100% and the sound is chopping and
skipping. so, i believe foobar plugin is not mature enough at the moment and
it's better to extract the tracks with ScarletBook tool and playback them using
"foo_input_dsdiff.dll" instead.

My quad core PC handles isos with compressed mch DST audio tracks quite well.
The Layla disc was tested by another ripper and he found that scarletbook
either didn't recognize the iso or stopped the extraction at 80-90% of the disc
image. To tell the truth, I haven't got enough time to check my Celine Dion iso
rip with scarletbook.

Btw, the 4 GB file size limit is a good point and it might really cause problem
for foobar and/or the plugin. However, the developer of the sacddecoder knows
very well how to deal with big hi-res audio files because he has been
developing the foobar DVDA plugin, too. That plugin works on 4+ GB DVDA iso
images like a charm.

Meanwile I had time to try scarletbook on the Celine Dion iso rip joined on
Ubuntu. All tracks could be successfully extracted using Scarletbook. This
finding supports the hypothesis that the cause of the foobar crash may be
related to the foobar plugin.

Grill,

To be honest I've only tested the ISO splitting routines on Windows and not on
the PS3. So you got me doubting there for a second. Therefor I tested the
routines today on the PS3 as well.

fyi. I've set the splitting size to 10MB and dumped an ISO (< 4GB) to be
certain the routines work. After ripping I've merged the files back together
using hjsplit and I can now tell you with 100% certainty there is no bug in the
ISO splitting routines.

So I'm closing this issue as it's definitely not SACD ripper related.

Great, thanks. So do you think that your ISO splitting routines work absolute
correctly on the iso of a dual (hi-res) layer SACD, too? I guess the Celine
Dion disc is such one (4,749,821,952 bytes).

There is nothing in code that would indicate it would not work. But I cannot
test this myself as I don't own any dual layer SACDs..

I can now confirm that the joined 4+ GB Celine Dion iso burnt onto a DVD+DL
disc plays fine on a standalone player.
