AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor is overkill #1

If your primary use case is gaming, the 12 core monster is more than you'll need. An R7 3700X is more than enough. You get 3.6 GHz – 4.4GHz (turbo) in 8 cores / 16 threads and save $200.

Take that money and put it into a 2080 Super.

Definitely true. I had this CPU originally, to support a hybrid gaming/video conversion workload.

CPU was never even close to the bottleneck, except occasionally on a pegged single thread.

It is an impressive CPU, though.
