Can you provide status on this feature? Are there any hacks we can use to get
around
this limitation?

You could write your own camera control system like you can find in
http://www.planetinaction.com/places.htm
The GExplore control system is in some ways even better than my SpaceNavigator
device
and it only needs mouse and keyboard.

There is a workaround for controlling the plugin with the SpaceNavigator using
the ViewSync function from the Liquid Galaxy Project.
On the one machine you can configure Google Earth Client as a ViewSync master
and Google Earth Plugin as a ViewSync slave. Run both and the Space Nav will
control GEC and the Plugin will slave it's camera from the Client.

JavaScript in web browsers can now easily access 3Dmouse input (i.e. Space
Navigator) using Gamepad API, making it real easy to make your own camera
control system. If GE plugin were to integrate a camera control system using a
3Dmouse I do hope it's made optional, in case one wanted to instead use a
custom camera control system using a 3Dmouse.
