Improve DAE model lighting when "sun" enabled

What should this feature enhancement do?

The plugin-in illumination is quite brutal. As soon as a face is back to the 
light source (sun), it turns completely dark. Ambient color settings in the DAE 
file are ignored by the plug-in.

This is being a real issue when trying to implement billboards (clouds, trees, 
etc.)

Also, normals defined in a DAE file appear to be ignored. I guess they are 
recalculated during model import.

Are there any known workarounds that produce the similar results?

Not that I know.
