50% uptake, from unpublished trial data (Aveyard) -1.5 BMI loss for attenders (SE 0.007) from Stubbs et al 2011
a. On top of Amy’s points. 12 weeks of weight watchers is probably too optimistic- many probably just getting brief advice. Can we get better data on what is being given? Maybe we should run different scenarios here. (see note e) b. But we are missing other benefits e.g. cancer of weight loss (in which case we should consider modelling a direct effect on mortality if we appear to have a marked discrepancy and we model directly for smoking and statins) c. Need to understand what really happening with a weight loss referral – are they all going to weight watchers (or equivalent), probably not; some may just get dietary advice from practice nurse d. Ask Nick to query with ESCAP/PHE what is known about quality of weight loss interventions/relative proportions attending each e. For modelling we discussed modelling a range of scenarios for how weight loss interventions are or could be developed (thus showing scope for improved outcomes): this might include brief advice GP (see Aveyard work), nurse referral, weight watchers or similar
