Triggers - dogs dying: The main character graphically stomps a homeless man's dog to death (somewhat from a distance, yelping is very audible). This is very upsetting and early in the film. The same character nearly shoots a cat, but does not. (SPOILER WARNING BELOW) It is later revealed that some events may not have actually happened, which would include the dog's death. - animal abuse: Tries to feed a kitten to an ATM. Cat is fine - pets die - dead animals - animals (besides dog/cat/horse) dying: This says other than a dog, cat, or horse - seek first question at top for answers about the dog scene and how to skip it - gaslighting: This is a complicated one due to the main character being confused and unaware of who he actually is but characters in the film call him by other names and say that he hasn't actually done stuff he vividly remembers doing, all of this is ambiguous due to his deteriorating mental state - stalking: It's assumed so, it's not seen on screen. The main character tells a person of a different character's life in oddly specific detail. - addiction: One character is shown having drug withdrawals. - drug use: Explicit cocaine use - restraints - excessive gore: One of the most well known scenes in the movie depicts Patrick Bateman repeatedly hitting someone with an axe, getting blood everywhere - shaving or cutting - genital trauma/mutilation: [SPOILERS, scene descriptions] There is a scene after Patrick has sex with two sex workers where he opens a drawer with knives and a wire coat hanger, and immediately after the sex workers are seen leaving his apartment limping and injured (what he did is left to the imagination). Towards the end of the movie, a journal is shown with explicit drawings of genital mutilation and torture, which was extremely triggering. I recommend looking away when [SPOILERS] the secretary sits to read the journal. - cannibalism: A character mentions doing so, but it's not shown on screen. - amputation: not sure why someon said no. there is a head in patrick's fridge - torture: The hooker who gets lured into Patrick's apartment for the 2nd time, at first declines, stating that the last time she left she was hardly able to walk, implying she was sexually tortured in some fashion. - falling down stairs: spoilers // the hooker? or some girl idk i have facial blindness, runs down stairs with patrick abt to throw a weapon to her head and ig she trips when it hits her - cheating: Yes, multiple characters cheat. - shower scenes: In the opening of the movie, the main character is shown standing in the shower. - audio gore: Several times throughout the film, you can hear blood splatter and other disturbing sounds one might hear when well..committing a murder. - anxiety attacks: While there aren't anxiety attacks there are still quite a few mental breakdowns. - misophonia: Bateman's voice might trigger it, kind of dry mouth ASMR-y - violent mentally ill person: regardless of the end and what it might "change" in the events of the movie, the main character 100% has an antisocial personality disorder and is violent, has harmful behaviors and is depicted as a killer. (tw: he calls himself a "psychopath") - flashing lights or images: In one scene while the main character and his friend are at a club, there are flashing lights. It lasts for a few seconds but they're there. - hate speech: Homophobic slurs are used. - ableism: Look at the title of the movie. - black guy dies first: The first on-screen murder in the movie is Patrick Bateman killing a black homeless man and his dog. - homophobic slurs: F slur is used quite a few times in their business friends chats. Uncomfortable, but not used in a direct or violent homophobic attack - antisemitism: First scene in the restaurant opens with this, character is called out on it though - nude scenes - sexual objectification: It's implied at several points that Patrick thinks of women as sexual objects. - sexual content: There are many sex scenes between Bateman and prostitutes, a prostitute and a model, Bateman and Courtney. - sexual assault: Most of the sex is consensual, but there's two scenes where the same hooker is bribed into sex with Bateman and other women for Bateman's pleasure. The second time, the hooker tries to walk away, but he lures her into his car with money. - homelessness: Not only is a character homeless, he is also the first person to die onscreen, and the main character later claims to have killed 5-10 homeless people in total. - car honk / tire screech - car crashes - blood or gore: I feel as though the chainsaw scene should be mentioned after attempting to have a threeway with two women he bites into one of them and the other women realizes as she gets up to sneak away and he, bloody and naked, chases her down the hall with it and then drops it on her leaving her body in a pile of her own blood - gun violence
