Thank you for your issue report. However, the project is untouched for a year and I got problem to build the plugin in my new machine. So it may take some time to figure out what's going on.

If my memory not went wrong, in [ USER_HOME/.IntelliJPlugin/DebuggerVariableSaveLoader/ ] folder you may find the error log file which records the error stack trace. It could help me a lot if you can provide it here.

Sorry I don't have any directories called IntelliJPlugin or DebuggerVariable*. BTW, I am using DebuggerVariableExtractor. DebuggerVariableSaveLoader doesn't even generate json.

I have sent a pull request to debug-variable-sl , but some things are not ready
