This PR fixed a bug related to restarting simulations with particles that I fixed a week and a half ago
As I recall, original-problem involved duplicating part of the end of the filename. (I can try to figure out what the problem was if you would like)
Along the way, I slightly refactored the relevant code to make use of std::string instead of fixed-sized stack-allocated buffers representing c-strings. This will more robustly handle long paths and (in my opinion) is slightly easier to understand
