County or City Level Data? #1

Closed chipoglesby closed 7 years ago

Hi @chooliu, is there any interest in creating a county or city level section as well? I'm a Fort Collins resident and I have some data that could be added, but I wanted to see what your thoughts were first.

Thanks! @chipoglesby

chooliu commented 7 years ago

Yes! Totally. I'd love to have "city", "county", "state" etc headers.

chipoglesby commented 7 years ago

@chooliu great, thanks! I look forward to contributing! Also, is there any prerequisites for the data? For example, I have a project going to scrape Larimer County Restaurant Inspections, but there's no API or easy way to download data. Just curious about what should be added.

chooliu commented 7 years ago

Good question on pre-requisites for data, I think I'll just leave it pretty open ended for now -- if others end up contributing more, maybe we can revisit / be tougher later?

chipoglesby commented 7 years ago

@chooliu sure, sounds like a great idea. I'm a bit OCD, hence the tables, so I might give it some more thought. I thought about adding a column for is government as a boolean value, true or false.

I'd suggest if you have a project like your restaurant scraping that isn't really a data source, just add the link to your github repo w/ the project? Could make a section for projects?

@andypicke good idea. Take a look at the site and let me know if this type of data is what you're thinking about? http://www.larimer.org/food/

oof -- that larimer site! definitely seems like all the pieces are there to eventually express it as a tidy data table 😱 ! i love andy's suggestion for a "projects" section / maybe using the "citizen data portal" for that.

I would put the link to http://www.larimer.org/food/ (or maybe just http://www.larimer.org/) under the 'county data sources' section. If you have a project that scrapes/uses the data, i'd suggest putting the link somewhere ('the citizen data portal' maybe?). You could also add a 'see link below' where you list it in the 'county data sources' section. Just my 2 cents :)

Closing this issue because we've now added better sections / organization. (Credit to Chip and Andy!)
