Kate Hollenbach is an artist, programmer, and educator based in Los Angeles, California. She is interested in interactive systems and new technologies relating body, gesture, and physical space. Her art practice is informed by years of professional experience and as a gestural interface designer and product developer. She is a contributor to p5.js and co-founder of voidLab, an intersectional feminist collective. Kate holds an MFA from UCLA Design Media Arts and a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from MIT.

Description
phonelovesyoutoo is an Android application that lovingly watches its user’s activities in physical and virtual space by simultaneously capturing video from the phone’s front camera, back camera, and screen. Captured footage chronicles places the user has been, unflattering glimpses of their body, vacant looks, and much of their online interaction with others via text and social media. It shows the user's life in a merged physical and virtual reality, where presence no longer means just showing up to a location but also keeping tabs of events as they unfold and appear online. In this talk, I'll share a series of video and installation works created with phonelovesyoutoo and some stories about creating and using the app.
