We now have pre-selected select field options, but it would be nice if user can enter the number as certain services that we envision (apartment subscriptions, variable commercial subscriptions) that don't fit nicely into a select field option

Stripe and Authorize.net seem to be the two front runners. Both can do:

Charge subscribers variable amounts (i.e. Mike signs up for 15/month and Susan for 22/month)
Allow for "metered billing" i.e. Star Cafe had 2 tons of waste for $150 month A and 3 tons of waste for $225 in month b captured on a recurring billing format.

Authorize.net becomes cheaper after about 80 clients and perhaps even earlier.

Correction, after talking to an Authorize.net rep, it seems it'll always be more expensive and has lots more up front and fixed costs. It is also clunkier, and more complex. Stripe is the winner
