EPG & Videotext Buttons #56

Hi Chris, maybe we´ve discussed this earlier? From my point of view the EPG & Videotext Buttons are missing in PVR. As most Skin have this Buttons ... there is a real need for it .. Can you re-think this?

chrisbevan commented 9 years ago

OK, will add asap. EPG easy enough, but videotext is not something I can test from the U.K. I'll have to get you to test that one for me.

wilderkaiser commented 9 years ago

Sounds great! Would be a pleasure to serve you with some testings ... I think the main need is EPG and i am not sure that Videotext is available outside Germany and Austria?? addition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletext#Vereinigtes_K.C3.B6nigreich

Great, thanks.

Quick update: Work on EPG and teletext buttons is in progress. Getting the EPG right is going to take a little more time than I hoped, but hopefully it'll be ready in the next few days.

Oh thats cool! by the way - got my mail?

chrisbevan commented 9 years ago

Yes - thanks for sending it through.

There is much I like in your design ideas, but I feel it would involve so much work to achieve that it would end up being a new skin rather than a modified version of Maximinimalism. Unfortunately I cannot commit the time to such a large project, but I will take your ideas on board for future work on Maxi.. Believe me, maintaining one Kodi skin is enough work in itself!

On your other points:

First, I completely agree with you that the best user experience for Kodi is to use as few buttons as possible. I designed Maximinimalism to need only the bare minimum. You are using up-down-left-right OK, back and context menu (c). If it is not too late, I would very strongly advise also including 'info' (i on the keyboard). Info is essential for using Maximinimalism (and Kodi in general).

Customising the home menu / building own menu items (homescreen)... I've considered this in the past. I'm not a fan to be honest - I think it adds unnecessary complication and I think the menu as it is covers everything a user needs to do with Kodi. Another reason for not doing this is that it depends on scripts that are not under my control. If the scripts for Artist Slideshow and 'recent items' fail for some reason, the consequences are not so bad.. But if the homescreen menu fails because someone out there broke their code, the whole skin is broken. This is not a risk i'm willing to take!

Colour themes / theme packs... I looked into this a while back and decided against it. Try as I might, I could not find a colour scheme that worked as well as simple black + white with splashes of colour. Again, my design strategy is to keep things as simple as possible!

i see - lets discuss this in private Chris. Believe me, I appriciate your work so much .. maybe we´ll find a way to earn some coins for this kind of work but thats not for here to discuss public. Kodi is a great thing but non-nerds are overstressed with this! Thats why i work on "crossbox" to make kodi a working Home Entertainment Systems "out of the box" .. with easy video streaming (Amazon Prime Instant Video) & music streaming (spotify) and some other - easy to handle services like Radiotunes for example .. you know what i see on the radar ...
