I am having the same issue, could this be because there seems to be support for reacting to messages(at least from ios users)? It seemed to occur the first time I saw reacting to messages supported.

jsingers commented 2 years ago

I have had this same issue all day. No messages showing in desk top app. Please fix this. Thank you.

Same here on Windows 11. Coincides with getting the iphone reactions in the Messages app on android. Works fine here https://messages.google.com/web

No, I believe that's just a coincidence because I've had iphone reactions for a few months now and they had been showing up just fine on the desktop app.

Kornstalx commented 2 years ago

Ditto, same problem, started suddenly today.

+1 Win10

gregbert commented 2 years ago

It started happening for me with the last update of Android Messages for Desktop. I'm a WIN10 desktop and my phone is a Google Pixel 6P. ADDITIONAL I cannot change to Dark Mode. I could find no version info for the desktop app to include.

The fork works for me. Find the releases here.

breichart commented 2 years ago

Yeah, the fork works as well, but I still prefer Chris's. Wish he could get it to work, but this will have to do for now.

FYI, another option for those that don't want to use the fork is to use Chome (or Chomium) to "install" https://messages.google.com as an app. I removed the desktop app from my system and went with this approach.

See https://support.google.com/chrome_webstore/answer/3060053 for more info.

I know not everyone will want to use this option, just putting it out there as an alternative.

ffxsam commented 2 years ago

@PHLAK Thanks for the reminder! I just installed the Chrome app myself. Works just as well as any of the Electron-based versions.

curea commented 2 years ago

The fork worked for me as well, so maybe there is hope for this project to get it going as well.

PrimozR commented 2 years ago

Same boat, doesn't work...

harpality commented 2 years ago

@PHLAK thanks - seems like a great option. haven't used this before.

gregbert commented 2 years ago

Yesterday I totally removed the 3.1 version from my desktop. I installed version 5.3.1 Works GREAT! I must have accidentally allowed the update to 3.1 so I'll do the same process again today!

I had the same problem, Windows 11, stopped loading messages a few days ago. Could send, but didn't show messages in the message window.

I just switched to the OrangeDragon fork linked above, v 5.3.1, it works fine.

Yeah, thing is I can't get the OrangeDragon version to minimize to my system tray. I'm going to deinstall it and reinstall version 2

Settings -> Enable Tray Icon doesn't work? Works here...

Bow howdy color me stupid (lime green). I didn't see it there even though I specifically looked for it.

jonklinger commented 2 years ago

+1, Linux installed via snap. Regular desktop, Ferdi and my paired android works. Any workaround?

RipHG commented 2 years ago

Same can't see messages

anonymousaga commented 2 years ago
