OpenID delegation does not accept https url, but gives no error message, #120

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set OpenID delegation to https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id in 
profile and submit
2. Message says 'User updated', but delegation openid is still blank
3. This looks like issue with SSL, as non-SSL openids work. 

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect to see a message why the update failed, or at least that 
something went wrong

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OpenID 3.2.1 on Wordpress 2.7.1 on PHP 5.2.6, libcurl/7.15.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8c 
zlib/1.2.3 libidn/0.6.5
