What is the purpose of the `mbdb_tax_grid` page? #40

Hi Christie,

I think your plugin is fantastic. I've reviewed 5 other WP plugins aimed at authors, and yours is the only one that feels like it puts the needs of authors front and central. Thank you.

I have a question, and I haven't been able to find an answer, so hopefully you don't mind me using GitHub issues for this purpose.

The plugin creates a page with content:

MBM Tax Grid Page. Do NOT remove this page or edit it except to change template.
[mbdb_tax_grid]

I haven't been able to get the mbdb_tax_grid shortcode to work.

Also, the page displays with that big title by default.

I'm guessing tax here refers to 'taxonomy', rather than financial tax?

The Q I have is: what is the purpose of this page? What should the short code turn in to on the front end?

For what it's worth, the way I tested this was to follow these instructions: https://docs.docker.com/compose/wordpress/ and then after doing the "famous 5 minute install" (next > next > next pretty much), I added the Mooberry Book Manager plugin. So it's an entirely standard, completely up to date (wp 5.4.2 / mooberry bm 4.3.2) brand new blog that I used as my test platform.

I found another page out in the wild where this issue appears : https://www.nvsweb.co.uk/mbm-tax-grid-page-do-not-remove-this-page-or-edit-it-except-to-change-template/ (not my page)

Thanks again,

Chris

Hi Chris,

The tax grid page placeholder is an attempt to force wordpress to recognize the /taxonomy/term and use a specific layout for it (in a grid). Because of the way wordpress works, it looks for custom templates in the theme, but I want MBM to work without having to mess with the theme.

There seems to be a bug somewhere that upon installing/activating MBM it some times does not make a setting properly. If you go to Mooberry Book Manager Settings -> Book Grid there is a section for Taxonomy Grids. The drop down should be set to that MBM Tax Grid page.

If that is set properly, you shouldn't have the Tax Grid page in your menus, and you shouldn't see that page, and a URL like /genre/fantasy (whatever you have on your site) should properly show a grid of fantasy books on your site.

It may not be the best solution to the issue, but it's what I've got at this time. If you have a better idea, I am all ears for sure, because I do not like this one!

And thanks for your kind words about MBM. If there's anything you'd like to see added to improve it for authors, please let me know!
