Just for completion: To attach the paper rulers to the branch you first wind the medical tape around the branch once, then you hold the paper ruler on this first layer and fix it with 1-2 additional rounds of tape. That way the ruler is fixed to the branch and cannot move any more along the branch.
Hi @DeirdreLoughnan and @FrederikBaumgarten, thanks for your comments!
I like the idea of the self-laminated paper rulers. However, I didn't find pouches big enough for our paper (27.9x43.2cm). We used such big sheets to limit gluing additional sheets during summer. @ngoj1 did you guys end up using the whole length of the rulers?
@christophe-rd, my thought was we could cut the bottom/edges off the pouches and use them as sleeves/sheets for the upper portion of the ruler. I will be in on Monday if you want to experiment together and see if it works.
@DeirdreLoughnan ok I think I understand. Should I print and cut the rulers then? And then on Monday, we can start with the lamination.
@christophe-rd that sounds good. If we are aiming to meet Monday, you may have to order the sheets from Amazon soon.
@DeirdreLoughnan I will order them now
Hi, sorry I missed this! some of the taller trees like BEPA and POBA and whatnot definitely needed two rulers, while some of them barely even grew. I think that we can just print as many as we need for now (for however many trees are having shoot elongation measurements) and maybe an addition 20 or so in case things get too tall too fast.

@ngoj1 has been working on setting up the shoot elongation measurements, but I believe he has run out of time before leaving. Here are a few notes on what we discussed over email:
@FrederikBaumgarten @ngoj1, if there are additional points to add to this method, please do so.
