Notifications can be disabled as a compilation options, though I would agree with building this feature into the program as well
Actually, it appears that this is already available as the flag --no-notify
. Check pasystray --help
I'm not seeing it-- any idea which version that was implemented in?

No idea; I'm currently running the version compiled the Github code. Says 0.6.0 in the about page, though.
@alexrichert: It was implemented here: 62237c2473997d6f14b1b9385304fd6cc9db98b9 This was first released in pasystray-0.6.0.
As the name implies, this will disable all notifications though. If that's ok, please let me know and I'll close this.
Would it be possible to have a command line option for pasystray that would hide the notification when the scroll wheel is used to adjust the volume? I'm using xfce4-volumed in order to be able to use my volume keys, but it already gives a nice pretty notification with a volume meter, so the "sink Built-in..." details from pasystray are redundant (i.e., right now I'm seeing both notifications when I use the mouse wheel to adjust the volume).
