Unreadable font-chrome/xp

Please describe the issue:
Cant read the pages, faint grey font on a grey background is unreadable. (see 
att.)

Please provide any additional information below.

Using chrome, stock build on XP. Looks fine in Chrome on Mac osx.

Doesn't look fine at all on Chrome 17 *nor* Chrome 19, Safari, FF on OSX/Lion.  
Terrible.   
It's not the font, but the combination of a very bad color choice and the 
impossible pattern.

I tweaked the color up from #222 to #000.

Still un readable, seems its not the colour, the texts in question are set to 
black (or green etc).

Its being caused by the "font-weight: 300;", if I bump that up to say 600 its 
perfectly readable (although it ruins the style :))
