Shortened URL feature not working? #53

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Copy URL
2. Create status update
3. Paste URL

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect "http://tinyurl.com/a7knco"
What I get is "http://www.lytspeed.com/mylinks.htm
http://tinyurl.com/a7knco" with both "Include URL" and "... shortened"
checked. In other update products, I can just paste the URL and it
automatically shortens without including the full URL.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
FireStatus Version 1.5 on Windows XP SP3 and Firefox 3.0.5.

Please provide any additional information below.
This tool looks really useful, but I don't like how the URL pasting works.
 Thanks for considering my problem.

Actually it works, albeit easier than you think!
When you click on the IncludeURL checkbox the URL of the page in the current
browser
window will be appended to the outgoing update, shortened if the below checkbox
is
also checked. Put in another way, there is no need to actually copy and paste
the URL
of the page you are reading, it is done automatically for you if Include URL is
selected.

The only case you may need to resort to manual copy & paste is if you really
want to
format your message in a particular way, like starting the message with the
URL, or
whatever. In that case you shouldn't also click on Include URL and you would
have to
resort to manually shortening the URL, too.

Ah, it makes sense now. I couldn't figure out why Gmail showed up in a
shortened
link when I had pasted a link to my blog, but now it makes sense.

You might want to update the project home page to reflect how the URL inclusion
works. For me, at least, it wasn't intuitive.

Thanks for the quick response!
