Actually it works, albeit easier than you think!
When you click on the IncludeURL checkbox the URL of the page in the current
browser
window will be appended to the outgoing update, shortened if the below checkbox
is
also checked. Put in another way, there is no need to actually copy and paste
the URL
of the page you are reading, it is done automatically for you if Include URL is
selected.
The only case you may need to resort to manual copy & paste is if you really
want to
format your message in a particular way, like starting the message with the
URL, or
whatever. In that case you shouldn't also click on Include URL and you would
have to
resort to manually shortening the URL, too.

Ah, it makes sense now. I couldn't figure out why Gmail showed up in a
shortened
link when I had pasted a link to my blog, but now it makes sense.
You might want to update the project home page to reflect how the URL inclusion
works. For me, at least, it wasn't intuitive.
