But, how to contribute translation?

I haven't found the translation text in the source tree.

@chubin It's not appropriate to say "incorrect", some of them are not the common words used in Chinese.

Such as today's forecast for Beijing (20170324):

"Light Rain And Snow, Mist" is translated to "小冰雹雨", it sounds wired, maybe it should be "小雨加雪，薄雾".

And it seems "Light Rain And Snow" is not listed in the translation list above, would you like to provide a full list for translation?

@chubin Like what @VitoVan said, it's not 'incorrect' but not that proper and accurate. Some of the terms in English are not commonly used in Chinese. In addition, some terms have different granularity, e.g., Patchy can be translated to 局部 or 区域; possible and shower are all translated to 有时有; shower doesn't have light / heavy only if it comes with thunder, etc (all of them were told by my friend who is major in atmospheric science).

For Traditional Chinese, you can simply convert it from Simplified Chinese (there are many online tools, e.g., http://www.khngai.com/chinese/tools/convert.php), but the people who is using Traditional Chinese may have some idiomatic usages of weather.

天氣預報(weather report) is Traditional Chinese; in Simplified Chinese, it should be 天气预报.

@VitoVan @GreatYYX @zYeoman Should be there two different translations: both Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese probably? And what about Wu (Shanghainese), Xiang and Yue (Cantonese)? I think it would be really cool if we could support all these languages. Does it make sense? What do you think?

@chubin I think it should at least support Simplified and Traditional Chinese, others are native languages (FYI, Cantonese does have a lot of target clients).

@gyj1109 Have you tried curl zh.wttr.in? Does it look good? I with the friends have already done the initial Simplified Chinese translation. Could you please take a look at it and share some feedback with us?

@chubin Amazing!

But like the discussion a year ago, this translation still has some problems. The main problem now is the mix of Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, as well as some unusual Chinese expressions. For example, "Weather Report" is "天气预报" in Simplified Chinese, and "天氣預報" is Traditional Chinese.

Maybe you can provide two different translated versions like what many websites do: "zh-cn" for Simplified Chinese and "zh-tw" for Traditional Chinese, or just "cn" and "tw" for two letters.

Do you have translation files here? Or the source code with Chinese translation? I can't find it in the "Code" page. If you can provide it, I think I am able to provide Simplified Chinese translation, but I am sorry that I can't do anything for Traditional Chinese.

@chubin Hi! May I help you for the professional nouns. My major is Atmospheric sciences。How to translate "Light Rain And Snow, Mist" ? There was a book written by “大气科学名词审定委员会”——《大气科学名词(第三版) Chinese Terms in Atmospheric Science 》，which provides a standard comparison of these nouns.

In this book, Light Rain "小雨" page14,01.296 mist "轻雾" page19，01.395 sleet "雨夹雪"page16.01.339

In Chinese, the phenomena of "rain and snow falling to land at the same time" named "雨夹雪"。“夹” and "加" are pronounced the same, but have different meanings. "sleet" means "falling at the same time", "rain and snow" means "rain first and snow last".To avoid this problem, "and" will be trans as "有"。 So, I think "Light Rain And Snow, Mist" is "小雨有雪，轻雾"。

Yes there should be both zh-hans and zh-hant support. Although people are getting familiar with other standards, it's always more convenient to read in their native version. For better localization, we could further diversify zh-hans into zh-cn and zh-sg, and zh-hant into zh-tw, zh-hk and zh-mo. That involves more native speakers' effort.

And what about Wu (Shanghainese), Xiang and Yue (Cantonese)?

Supporting other dialects than Mandarin are favorable but challenging, as there lack an official standard for writing them. We need some experts on it.

Here's my question: Where does the current lang=zh vocabulary come from? I haven't found it in this repo.

@YouthLin extended the Simplified Chinese translation (zh-cn) in #392 done previously by @junhan-z and @gnowxilef (thanks a lot). Now we have three Chinese translations:

zh-cn
zh-tw

For all messages except weather conditions names, zh and zh-cn are used as aliases, but for the weather condition names different translations are used:

zh uses the translation provided by the upstream for the code zh;
zh-cn uses translation done by @YouthLine.

Of course, it is better to use our own translation, and so I would force its usage for both zh and zh-cn. Could you please take a look at them, and check why they are not identical? Is it possible that I've messed something up?

On my side zh reflects the latter output you provided, whereas zh-cn does the former.

~Both versions are comprehensible. I'm more familiar with terms in latter output, except for 阴天 (cloudy) and 局部多云 (partly cloudy): In weather forecasts I usually hear 阴 for cloudy and 有时多云 for partly cloudy. I believe there's an official glossary somewhere, but haven't found it yet.~ We should follow GB/T 35663-2017 and the standard mentioned in https://github.com/chubin/wttr.in/issues/83#issuecomment-412735097. Update: I've looked up the national standard and reviewed #392. Most of the translations there are good enough.

The time frames seem inaccurate. I'd recommend 傍晚 for evening, and 夜间 for night.

間 is zh-tw writing; zh-cn should use 间.

二 31 12月 is awful representing date; should be 12月31日星期二.

Evening can both be 傍晚 or 晚上, but I think "evening" here should be about sunset?

Some dictionary say both 傍晚 and 晚上 refer to 17h~20h in meteorology. However, 晚上 is also generic from dusk to dawn, whereas 傍晚 is literally before 晚上, thus I'd prefer 傍晚 for "evening".

I'd prefer using zh-cn translation for zh to avoid confusion.

Also, we need to change the date format as mentioned in https://github.com/chubin/wttr.in/issues/83#issuecomment-570031168:

date and week format: [MM]月[dd]日[ww]

There should be no space between fields.

For days of the week, I didn't see an official use of 周/週, although it's common in daily speech (and on my computer). China national standards GB/T 7408-2005 (zh-cn) and CNS 7648 (zh-tw) both use:

I'd propose "星期" for at least zh_CN, which is officially used in aforementioned standard and national news broadcast.
